The average lettuce on a shelf didn't come from around the corner. It traveled around 2,000 kilometers and spent 5–7 days in the supply chain before reaching you. We started with a simple question: if the city needs greens every day, why haul them from the far end of the continent? The answer is called Chișinău - and it's the reason we grow right here.
Two thousand kilometers, or one hour
Distance isn't a logistics detail. It's the difference between a lettuce that arrives tired and one that arrives alive. When greens set off from thousands of kilometers away, the trip is measured in days, and freshness gets lost along the way. When they grow in the city, the trip is measured in hours. Our five vertical farms in Chișinău are an hour from you: harvested today, delivered today or tomorrow.
Why in the city, not on its edge
A vertical farm needs no field, no tractor, no soil. The greens grow on stacked shelves, under LED light, in clean water, with a precisely dosed nutrient solution. No soil also means no pesticides - the plant gets exactly what it needs, nothing extra. And because everything happens indoors, the farm can sit in the heart of the city, not far from it. That's how the trip from harvest to table shrinks to a few hours.
We don't bring greens to the city. We grow them in it.
Green all year, whatever the season
On a classic farm, the season decides everything: what grows, when and how much. Here, LED light stands in for the sun, and the temperature and water stay the same every day. That means green all year - whether it's January or July outside, the greens grow just as well. The city no longer depends on a truck crossing Europe in winter; it has its own harvest, a few streets away.
Grown in Chișinău, for Chișinău
We chose this city because it's home. Our greens already sit on the shelves of 28 stores across 9 chains in Moldova and in fridges across all six sectors of Chișinău - Centru, Botanica, Ciocana, Râșcani, Buiucani and Telecentru. Grown in Chișinău isn't a label; it's where every lettuce you get takes root.
“An hour from you” isn't a slogan - it's the actual distance between the farm and your table.
Beyond the five farms
The idea traveled further than the city, too. CityFarm's founder, Dumitru Albot, took the story of Chișinău's vertical farm to Web Summit 2025 and worked side by side with local initiatives like ODA, MDED and Startup Moldova. The goal hasn't changed since day one: to prove a city can grow its own greens - fresh, alive, pesticide-free, an hour from every meal.
